The pop star and Barneys are collaborating on a “multifaceted holiday campaign” that will include Gaga’s Workshop, filled with limited-edition gifts, like lipsticks in Gaga hues, jewelry made of rock candy, and lip-shaped dark chocolate. [WWD]The Christian Louboutin and Yves Saint Laurent red shoe battle continues. After the judge denied Louboutin’s request to stop the sales of YSL’s red-soled shoes last week, the designer says he plans to “fight like hell” against YSL’s attempt to overturn Louboutin’s red sole trademark. Winona Ryder For Elle UK July 2009

Posted On Sunday, May 20th, 2012 By admin

Winona Ryder graces the cover of  Elle UK’s July 2009 issue, shot by Matthias Vriens McGrath. On the newsstand cover, she wears a nude tulle Dolce & Gabbana corset, and on the subscribers cover, she wears a simple black American Apparel top. In the interview, Winona talks about childhood bullies, leading roles, beauty and her latest film, “The Private Lives of Pippa Lee”. On Being Bullied: “We only shopped at the Salvation Army, and I would get these three-piece, 1970s little boy suits. I had really short hair, and the third day of seventh grade, these kids basically jumped me in the hall because they thought I was a gay boy, and they roughed me up… I think when that happened, I kind of went into a movie in my head because I couldn’t deal with what was happening. Kids would say, ‘You’re a witch, you’re creepy, you’re crazy.’ I was in the number-one movie in the country and I was still being bullied in school.” Read more…

No Cause For Alarm At Don The Verb

Posted On Saturday, May 19th, 2012 By admin

Don the Verb’s Hanna Astrom and Yanina Landsaat didn’t mandate formal terms for their choice of venue this season, but something bigger than last year’s gallery space was in order. Their requirements (bigger, darker, near their Delancey Street boutique) came through with Thor, the bar at the Rivington Hotel. “The Rivington is actually very pleasant to look at,” Landsaat remarked of the L.E.S. high-rise. “And it’s closer to work,” Astrom chimed in. Thor was indeed well suited to the duo’s latest offering, on view last night. It was a somber, mostly black collection featuring cocoonlike leather shrugs and wraps; it would be easy to read the pieces as emblematic of present-day woes. Landsaat dismissed that. “We hear the term ’survival of the fittest’ over and over again,” she said. “It’s really a matter of creating designer pieces for the long term.” Astrom agrees. “It’s like, don’t panic,” she counsels. “Don’t look at what other people are doing. Stick with what you’re doing and just go forward.”—Sarah Fones Photo: Ronen Shapiro <!– —jconnors –>

Warby Parker Looks On The Bright Side

Posted On Saturday, May 19th, 2012 By admin

Warby Parker, the do-good eyewear line that promises a pair of glasses to a person in need for every $95 pair sold, tiptoed into the sunglass game for Fall, collaborating with Suno on a pair of specs. For spring, they’re flying solo with four women’s and five unisex frames, all with polarized lenses, offered in two colors each. The price remains the same cool $95 as always, and a pair of optical glasses will be donated for every pair bought. They’re available for pre-order now on the label’s Web site, but if you’re looking to try on the round, vintage-inspired Jasper or the classic Everett in tortoiseshell, you’ve only got to head to Brooklyn’s Bird at the end of the month, when the WP shop-in-shop opens on July 27.—Kristin Studeman Photos: Courtesy of Warby Parker <!– —Matthew Schneier –>

The Shoe In: Sculpture Afoot At McQueen

Posted On Thursday, May 17th, 2012 By admin

I heard that dreaded kitten heels appeared earlier today at Louis Vuitton. But last night at Alexander McQueen, it was still cobbling to the extreme: sculptural shoes with ten-inch heels. The more hooflike ones reminded me slightly of Balenciaga’s intense platform from several seasons ago. I had actually tried those on, and they were quite secure until I tripped on the fashion closet floor and nearly broke my ankle. At McQueen, these were almost literally works of art, some sculpted to look like the fossils of ancient yet alien sea creatures. Others had a cool, old-school robotic thing happening with pieces of metal screwed together. They’re amazing to look at, but would you buy them to wear or display in your living room?

Stage set for marvellous Maticevski

Posted On Wednesday, May 16th, 2012 By admin

Froth and femininity: Toni Maticevski fits a model with one of his creations in preparation for his retrospective show on Thursday. Photo: Rodger Cummins HIS exquisite creations have made celebrities swoon and fashion-lovers weep, but Footscray-raised designer Toni Maticevski remains modest about his achievements. ”I hate sitting in the front row and having to see my own work on the catwalk,” he says. ”I’d rather be anywhere else, frankly.” Maticevski will let his extravagant couture gowns take centre stage this week in a show-stopping finale to the Melbourne Fashion Festival. Advertisement: Story continues below It is 10 years since Maticevski won the festival’s new designer award as a 26-year-old who made every piece of his collection in the garage of the family home in Laverton. Now, with celebrity clients clamouring for his red-carpet creations, the softly spoken designer has enough clout to return with a 50-gown solo show. The retrospective collection is drawn from 2000 made-to-measure pieces in his archives. ”I haven’t shown in Melbourne since 2004, and that’s a long time in fashion,” he says. ”It will be nice for the audience to see the evolution of the brand, but I don’t think I would do it again by Continue Reading

Breaking: Nicholas Kirkwood Is Not Losing His Edge

Posted On Wednesday, May 16th, 2012 By admin

“If I want to be a shoe brand and not so niche, I need to embrace the simple shoe,” Nicholas Kirkwood said between sales appointments at his showroom in the Marais. “My focus is on making a part of the collection for everyday.” His face betrayed a slight worry. After all, Kirkwood has amassed a relatively small but fiercely loyal and possessive following—a group that doesn’t want to hear that their creative genius is bowing to practical concerns. So it’s with a touch of hesitation that Britain’s favorite cobbler son is expanding his oeuvre of fantastical, killer shoes. What’s new in the house of Kirkwood? First, the divisive low heel. “I’ve never done a normal kitten heel,” he explained. “I thought, let’s just make it look kind of awkward, but it’s actually done quite well.” Kirkwood’s sling-back versions are raised up on platforms to give a kittenish look with a bit more height. There’s some straightforward sexiness in a black patent sling-back or a slightly asymmetrical snake d’Orsay pump. But what could be the perfect everyday option for the Kirkwood girl when she’s flying under the radar are the very chic and sportif d’Orsay buckled sandal boots in plain tobacco or Continue Reading

Which Was Your Favourite Rosie Huntington-Whiteley “Transformers: Dark of the Moon” Promotional Tour Look?

Posted On Tuesday, May 15th, 2012 By admin

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley set the bar to an unbelievable new height whilst promoting her first movie, “Transformers: Dark of the Moon.” We haven’t dropped our jaws this much during a promo run since Zoe Saldana for “Avatar.” We had an inkling of good things to come from Rosie at the Maxim Hot 100 Party and other events like the MTV Movie Awards. She surpassed our expectations and broke out of the Victoria’s Secret model bandage dress red carpet uniform by wearing a variety styles and Oscar-worthy gowns. Michael Kors seemed to be her favourite designer. She showed support for British designers by wearing Burberry, Antonio Berardi and Stella McCartney both at home and away. Other looks include Dolce & Gabbana, The Row, Gucci and Naeem Khan. Credit:Alexander Murashkin/Spletnik.ru, PA, INFPhoto & Getty
